State Bank of India to hire 7200 employees! 

With close to 50 per cent of the workforce in public sector banks set to retire in the next few years, the banking industry will soon be among the top employers offering five-seven lakh jobs.
India’s largest lender, State Bank of India, will recruit over 7,200 employees in this fiscal. “We intend to hire about 1,837 probationary officers and 5,400 assistant officers in FY15,” said JN Misra, corporate development officer at SBI.


About 40,000 staff will be retiring in the next four years and the bank expects to recruit about 35,000- 40,000 employees during the period. Similarly, in Bank of Baroda, 16 of the 32 top management personnel will retire by March FY15. The third largest public sector bank will hire 7,500 probationary officers and clerks this financial year, with about 2,500 employees due to retire.
“We have a good succession plan in place and have completed our promotion exercise in the first month. The people who will be replacing the seniors were groomed and trained as well. While the challenges of senior management retiring will remain, we are better prepared this year,” said SS Mundra, Chairman and Managing Director of the bank.
The banking industry needs to match the capabilities to bridge the talent gap in public and private sector banks, according to Anil Khandelwal, former CMD, Bank of Baroda. According to him, regulators always talk of financial assets but not about those who create those assets. He added that PSB boards today spend less than one per cent of human resources to train and make their employees competitive.
“Barring three banks, no PSBs have set up a committee on HR within the bank. Succession in key positions is not being discussed. The rigour that private banks display in developing key leadership positions is not visible in PSBs,” said Khandelwal, who was chairman of the committee to look into the HR issues of public sector banks.
About 75 per cent of the general manager level posts will be vacant by 2020, according to Akash Lal, Partner, McKinsey and Co.
Aditya Mishra, President - Staffing, Randstad India, said: “Apart from core banking jobs, there will be an increase in backend jobs, including those in processing and outsourcing to third parties.”

Review Resume
You should have good professional resume which clearly indicate your qualification, knowledge and experience. Interviewers will use resume as the first source to find questions. So be prepared with each and every point mentioned in your resume. Always be honest and confident in explaining your experience and qualification.

Know Yourself
You should know yourself very well before facing an interview. It means you should have a clear mind set regarding your skills, positive abilities, knowledge, interests and even your weakness. Try to explain these things with an example or past experience. Ensure that the weakness that you describe doesn't make a negative impact on employers. 

Know your Subjects
Refresh your key subjects that you studied as part of graduation. Always focus on the fundamental concepts, basic definitions and key formulas.

Have good knowledge about the bank for which you are attending interview for. This includes the organization’s core business area, type of products offered, location of headquarter, key office locations and number of branches, name of chairperson and key executives. Research on company balance sheet, related news article, current position in Industry etc. Search the bank’s website, news article and wikipedia for more details. You can also get good information from bank’s employees.

Knowledge on common Banking terms 
A candidate who is interested in banking career should have fair idea about common banking terminology. This include banking terms related to current context and happenings.

Current affairs and general knowledge 
Interviewer will also check your general knowledge and current affairs to test your knowledge on your general awareness and knowledge on day to day happenings.

Basic Computer/IT Skills : With the wide use of information technology in banks, this is an area that no one can ignore. Have good idea about basic IT terms and concepts. You can mention any IT course that you had undergone and is useful for banking. Prepare for common IT interview questions.

Eligibility criteria for the Course
Qualification - Bachelors Degree in any discipline from a recognized University OR any equivalent qualification recognized by Central Government with 60 % (50% for non engineers)or above marks. Students appearing in final year Bachelor degree exams can also apply subject to their submitting their final Bachelor Degree mark sheet & 
Provisional Certificate on or before date of commencement of the Course.

Selection process 
Selection process will consist of Online exam and Interview.

On-line test will be of objective type, multiple choice of two hours duration 
comprising the following sections:-

The online examination will be in English language only. There will be penalty for 
wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong 
answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to 
that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is 
left blank, i.e. no answer is given by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that 
question. 

Successful candidate based on merit will be eligible to be called for an Interview. 
Candidates who do not obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the Interview shall 
be disqualified from further selection. 

Application Fees
Rs. 500/- for all candidates. Fees can be paid in both online as well as offline mode.
